This 4-Day Desert Tour Fes to Marrakech via Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga is highly recommended. The tour includes 2 nights in the Sahara desert (1-Night in Hotel and the second in a desert camp), a camel trek, and short drives.

Tour Plan

Day 01 Fes -Ifrane-Midelt -Errachidia-Arfoud-Rissani-Merzouga.

During this journey you’ll experience glimpses of the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas mountains. Stopping Ifrane and Azrou, a Berber village in the middle of the famous cedar forest – the largest in Morocco where you may well sight Barbary apes. After sometime within the forest, your journey continues to Midelt along the magnificent hills and mountains of the Atlas, after Midelt town you will be travelling through the fascinating Tiz Ntalghamt pass and the Ziz Gorge, taking in views of the High Atlas plateau, you’ll notice how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the city of Errachidia. Afterwards, you will travel along the luxuriant Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way to Erfoud known for its date festival and fossil mining. Here you can visit a local collective to learn more about the process and meet some local artisans. Continue to Erg Chebbi, an extensive sea of sand dunes covering an area of 13.5 square miles (35 square km). Never stationary, the massive dunes shift and travel depending on the changing wind. then to Merzouga where you will spend your first night in a nice Riad/ Hotel next to dunes.

Day 02 Explore Merzouga Desert and visit a nomad family

Camel ride back from the camp and see the sunset,breakfast and shower in the hotel ,then after you start a Moroccan desert safari in Merzouga for a half day with 4×4 to discover the Merzouga area, visit of Khamliya (the famous Gnawa music; black slaves playing the Gnawa music so typical of this region),also see a real nomad life and have lunch or tea with a nomad family, then you will spend a second night in the desert in a traditional nomad tent with amazing Berber nomad diner and a drams music watching the stars and the rising moon in the wonderful Sahara.

Day 03 Merzouga-Tinghir-Todra Gorges-Dades valley-Valley of Roses-Kalaa Megouna-Skoura Palm Oasis

Waking up before the sun rise gives you a unique treat watching the sun lighting the sand dunes into life. We will return from our oasis in the desert back to Merzouga for breakfast and to shower. Then we reach Tinghir, where we visit the Todra Gorge. Considered one of the most dramatic sights one can come across in the whole Morocco. The gorge was carved out by the Todra River forming cliff-sided canyons on its final 40 km through the mountains. The final 600m of the gorge are stunning as the canyon narrows to a flat stony track as little as 10m wide in places with sheer and smooth rock walls. Before we drive to take us to the Rose Valley, Kella Mgouna know for this growth of roses, and passing in April, May the whole valley smells of roses. Road of Thousand Kasbahs will take us to the very nice Skoura Oasis for an overnight.

Day 04 Skoura-Ouarzazat-Ait Benhaddou Kasbah-High Atlas Mountains-Marrakesh

Departure from Skoura to Ouarzazate City for a stop to see the Taourirt Kasbah from outside ,after we will enjoy a visit to Morocco’s famous Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Aït Benhaddou. It is estimated the old ksar (a walled town) dates from the 11th century when it held an important position along the trans-Saharan trade route. Stop and explore the narrow streets and passageways of this traditional mud-brick city. From there, travel the winding road over the High Atlas mountains, Stop near the top of the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (7,415 feet or 2,260 m) to admire the view over the mountain range.
